We look for any excuse not to go to the meeting. We pretty much go to show our faces, just to stay under the radar.
We had a recent CO visit, where he relayed the question to the audience about how it looks when someone misses meetings to the point that it's noticeable. He then stated that if we miss that many meetings, "people may start to think that you don't want to be here." I wanted to yell out, "duhhhh!! Most of the people here in attendance would rather not be here!!!"
many people will scoff at the thought that the org will collapse.
i agree that it will never collapse but the crumbling has begun.
think about the following.....they have a serious lack of potential future leaders.
The biggest problem with their business model is that the product has an expiration date that precedes the shipping date ;-P

among the ammenities are a sand volley ball court, two tennis courts and a full basketball court.... there's also parking garages and picnic areas for visitors.... by the way, not sure exactly what this is but you'll notice a shaded area labelled "undergound chamber"... interesting.... (i wonder if moving out to the middle of nowhere was intended to keep bethelites from sneaking out at night and going to the liquor store... just saying).
What paid for this work? The Society Kingdom Hall Fund? Donations to the World Wide Work? Well, at least they put out a brochure of how we should dress when visiting, that has to count for something.

Like anything else I guess, it's what you make of it. To be honest, I really enjoy the Bible Highlights, and it's something that I wish was longer as opposed to simply 10 minutes. I'd prefer it if it were 15 minutes considering all the ball hoggers who refuse to keep their comments at 30 seconds or less. I always gain more from the Highlights than what I anticipated, which is similar to this message board, or even the internet in general.
I loathe the Service Meeting as it's really a waste of time considering that it's purpose is to provide training for the publishers to assist them in their ministry, yet we're not accomplishing anything in the ministry, so what's the point? Half-assed demonstrations and repetative parts with suggestions that don't accomplish jack shit when you're actually at someone's door. Plus the demos always end with the person accepting the literature and come off like it's a guaranteed Bible study, when the reality at the door is the exact opposite. I actually prefer the occasional hostility at the door as I find it entertaining, even humorous, something to laugh about to myself or the group later on. The apathy is depressing, and these territories are so apathetic that I don't see any rhyme or reason for the Service Meeting as it's really just a waste of time considering the apathy.
The WT Study can be enjoyable at times, although I hate with a passion the self serving agenda often found within the WT. I feel the same way about the Congregation Bible Study. The current book being studies could have been a real gem had the book simply focused on the historical and encouraging aspect of the events found within Acts, but instead the WT had it published with the agenda of its publishers wasting their time out in field service accomplishing jack shit.

it sounds like he had a larger audience that likely included his apostles.so, who is "this fold" he was referring to and who are the "other sheep"?according to wts doctrine, the heavenly calling (covenant) had not been instituted yet.

It really is that simple too. There's nothing to debate, nothing to refute. Has the WT ever attempted to explain why the other sheep aren't simply, Gentiles? I mean there's plenty of articles reminding their audience of the special role the annointed have and how the other sheep's salvation is dependent upon their treatment of the former, particulary the slave class. However, I don't ever recall an article from the WT making the case that the other sheep weren't, Gentiles.

Iclone, you beat me to it. I was gonna do a thread on this either later tonight or early tommorrow morning. Getting ready to attend the meeting right now and we'll have that same part tonight. The pressure is definately gonna be on for some folks, especially after they read the list of all the ones who've signed up, and for certain people if their name isn't read off, it could bring some unwanted attention their way.
By the way, perfect application of 2 Cor 9:7. To be fair, the WT last year in one of the KMs stated that they're not trying to pressure people and that people shouldn't view their encouragement within the literature as such, but rather view it as people cheering from the sidelines. How genuine that was supposed to be, I'll leave it up to you. Me personally though, as I've said in the past, and in harmony with a former classic poster's name, this whole Dirty Thirty Hour initiative...........Its a Cull without the T.
One last thing, the fact that someone can be an auxilliary pioneer for one special month of the year and only have get 60% of the required hours to typically qualify for auxilliary pioneering, shows just how trivial pioneering is. For one thing, it's going beyond what's written as we don't know how much time Jesus, Paul, Peter, Barnabus, or anybody else spent preaching. To have some religious book publishing company on steroids pressuring people to strive towards some imaginary bar, is going beyond even beyond what's written.

LHG, that's one of the red flags that went up for me. In one of the talks at an assembly, Higher Education was seriously discouraged. They had a youngster up on the platform, explaining how he gave up his college course to pioneer. The one that presented the information praised him for his action. The audience clapped in appreciation. Next came the announcements, advertising the Bethel meeting. And of course, they needed registered lawyers, nurses, dentists, doctors, etc. Then I knew something was seriously wrong. The UN-NGO debacle sealed it for me. I hate hypocrisy!
